About Our Book:
This book discusses the role of accounting infrastructure in supporting the economic development of developing countries, especially Mozambique. The principal conclusion of the study is that even though the accounting system has an important role in economic development, the strategies of developing countries do not pay enough special attention to the development of their accounting infrastructures. After discussing the concept and role of financial reporting, this study assesses the main accounting infrastructure elements, namely financial reporting, accounting regulation, accountants, organizations, and the accounting education system. Their main weaknesses are discussed, as well as the strategic actions necessary for their development. If the outcomes of the research add value to the available knowledge regarding the accounting infrastructure in developing countries, and if the research contributes to sensitizing and convincing accountants, policymakers, parliamentary deputies, government authorities, members of the business community, and the public in general regarding the importance of strengthening the Mozambican accounting infrastructure to support the economic development of the country, the main purpose of the research will have been met.
