| About
Our Book: |
| What began as a one week service mission to rural West Virginia evolved into a much longer journey for Bruce Nudd. A House on the Side of the Road chronicles the experiences of a volunteer working at Nazareth Farm. Through journal entries over eight years, the author recounts his relationship with the people of Doddridge County, the staff at Nazareth Farm and the many volunteers who joined him on week long missions. Not a farm in the traditional sense, Nazareth Farm which is located in the region commonly known as Appalachia, provides home repair and rehabilitation, and loving and caring presence in the community. All who volunteer at Nazareth Farm are called to be there for a reason. After his first week he finds his call elusive and leaves with more questions than answers. Over time he learns, sometimes in unlikely situations, that there was not one, but many reasons for him to be at the Farm. Ultimately, the cornerstones of Nazareth Farm, community, simplicity, service and prayer play an important role on his voyage of self discovery. Click here to view a preview chapter |
