About Our Book:
This novel is gripping and holds the reader's interest from the first page. The story is about a young girl named Cat who flees an incestuous childhood and stumbles on board a showboat on the Mississippi River. Her adventures bring her into contact with a group of characters that she grows to love and learn from. Although she desires to be on stage with the other performers, alas she is tone-deaf. However, she finds fame and fortune on the stage in a most unique way with a blacksnake whip. She meets a handsome riverboat gambler that she determines to marry, but not without some trial. Cat finds happiness in the end after a dreadful and tragic time on St. Simons Island during the Civil War.
