About Our Book:
The Sound of Ving Tsun is a compilation of interviews with four grandmasters and five masters of the Ving Tsun Kungfu system. Darrell Jordan's questions concentrate on the Ving Tsun system, training, chi sao and fighting techniques.

Author Darrell Jordan brings us back to the good old days of martial arts with penetrating interviews of the great masters of Ving Tsun Kung Fu. Here is a living legacy of warriors, preserved in their own words - the hardships, the discipline and the violence. for them, the martial arts were more than just a means of self defense, it was a vocation. Their art wasn't critiqued. It was challenged on the filed of combat. For aficionados of any art, Jordan provides an album of inspirational stories from those who sacrificed their very flesh and blood in pursuit of greater skill.

About the Author:
Darrell Jordan (Lee Gar Lin) has been studying and practicing Martial Arts since 1967 starting with boxing, moving on to Shoto-kan Kara-te in 1968 while growing up in NYC. He achieved his Brown belt after 4 years of study and then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1972 (mortars) and 1985 (Scout/Sniper). He was subsequently shipped over seas to various countries in South East Asia as an Infantryman. One of those countries was Okinawa, the birthplace of Kara-te. He immediately went out to locate a Kara-te school in which he found a local Dojo where Isshin-Ryu was taught. He joined right away, and continued in that school until he was shipped out to Japan, and again, locating a local kara-te school in which to participate. After a short stint in Japan, he was shipped to the Philippines where he found to his surprise a Shorin Ryu school and he continued his study of Kara-te.

In 1975 Darrell moved back to NYC, and having located the LEE MOY SHAN Ving Tsun (Wing Chun) Kung Fu school, he joined that night when he went to visit. Darrell recalls " I walked into the school and met the Instructor at the time Mr. Steve Goericke. (Lee Gar Xin)(Steve has a school in Sag Harbor in Long Island NY), He took me into the gym area and what I saw going on was absolutely amazing. All these guys and gals were facing each other in pairs and their arms seemed to be connected and at the same time they were hitting each other as best as they could with blinding speed. I asked Mr. Goericke what were they doing? He told me Chi Sao (sticking hands)." Darrell joined right then and there after realizing the validity of what he had just observed. Darrell gives credit to all of his Si-Hings (older Kung Fu brothers) for his rapid development in Ving Tsun, but a very special thanks goes to Steve Goericke, Richie Louie, Vinny Thomas, Paul Field, Robert Ham and Li Ping." It was these gentleman that had a profound impact on his development. Of course, without they're beloved Sifu, Master LEE MOY SHAN, none of would exist as they are today."

Darrell was accepted as a Disciple of Master LEE MOY SHAN in 1985 and was given his Disciple name Lee Gar Lin.
