| About
Our Book: |
| This is a short story about a young man drafted into the U.S. Army and sent off to war in Korea. It recounts incidents both happy and sad, humorous and tragic. It shows that war can foment lasting friendships and forge bitter memories, and can be both evil and good for those involved, shaping their lives forever, helping to make them who they are. It is the highlights of two years in a military much different than today, as told by an old man dying of cancer. It is the story of a man who was a son, a brother, a husband, a father, and a grandfather, passed on to his son in a series of audio tapes. It is the story of a Korean veteran. |

| About
the Author: |
As a child--and still to this day--I was always interested is war--World War II, Korea, and then the conflict in Viet Nam, brought into my living room by the evening news. I was always fascinated by the personal stories of terror, triumph, and heroism, by the trials and tribulations average people went through for the betterment of the world around them, for their loved ones at home far away. I knew my dad was a veteran of Korea. I had seen, at a very young age, the pictures he brought back from the war. I'd even heard a few stories now and then, but it was something he--like many other vets--did not like to talk about. When he was diagnosed with cancer in 1998, I decided that I needed to get his experiences down in writing before they were lost forever. This short story is his legacy. I love you, dad. Our time together was too short.
