This is a true story of survival. How Jean Russell, a naive country girl who grew up in the 1920s had the courage to withstand a dysfunctional marriage, an unorthodox religion, drug abuse, teenage pregnancy, family sickness, the death of her favorite grandson followed by the death of her eldest child and many other challenges and stumbling blocks. But through all of the darkness and pain, Jean finally saw a light at the end of the tunnel. This book is dedicated to all of the women of my era who are trapped in bad marriages because of their religious beliefs, children, or otherwise. To the women of today, I hope this book will give you the courage to face your challenges head-on. |

I was born in Hawkinsville, Georgia in 1923. I married my husband Donald when I was twenty-one years old. We left the farm and came to Homestead, Pennsylvania in 1946. I am the mother of nine children. I am eighty-one years old. I decided to write this book when my marriage of fifty-five years turned sour. I felt trapped, at times I thought I would loose my sanity, but God kept me in my right mind. When I was seventy-five years old, I asked Donald to move out. I wanted peace of mind and to be happy. That mattered more to me than anything. There's light at the end of the tunnel.
