| About
Our Book: |
| The Streetwise HomeBuilder is not the usual "how-to" book about how to install a skylight or hang a door. The authors saw there were plenty of books already on the bookshelves that gave the reader that kind of information. The Streetwise HomeBuilder provides the authors' combined sixteen years of experience in the homebuilding industry to help the reader avoid the financial and legal problems that so often appear with even small projects. The book provides the reader with a unique understanding of the inner workings of the homebuilding industry to show where problems come from and why, so they can be more easily avoided. Written with a cutting sense of humor, Mike & Kathy Wolfe provide straight talk about builders and subcontractors, architects and engineers, designers and decorators, and the influence of appraisers. The book walks the reader all the way through the design phase to the final construction, showing where the pitfalls can be, so the reader can step around them! |

| About
the Author: |
Mike & Kathy were a husband and wife team of licensed general contractors who built all sizes and styles of homes for sixteen years in the Southeast. They constantly had people asking them for advice about how to get out of the problems with their construction or remodeling project that they had found themselves in. Since Mike & Kathy always believed that it was easier, smarter, and cheaper to avoid problems than it was to climb out of the pit after you had fallen in, they decided to write down all of their streetwise experience in a book. The result was The Streetwise HomeBuilder. In the last year, since the book has been on the market, Mike & Kathy have found that the good builders and subcontractors endorse the messages in their book, while the "not-so-good" builders and subs just wish they would go away and stop educating people about the homebuilding business. The Streetwise HomeBuilder is unique. It tells the reader how to get and stay in control of their project, whether it is a large custom home or just a backyard deck. Sample contracts, job costing forms, and detailed specification sheets are all included.
