| About
Our Book: |
| This book is a memoir of my experiences and thoughts in living and dealing with the devastating dementia of my mother and the love of my life, Louise B. Helley, from its onset up through her death, and in the years since her passing. When your cherished loved one is in the grim grip of dementia, you feel as though you are outside of the real world and trapped within a dark and hellish netherworld, a nightmarish World Without End as I call it. Thus, this book is a report from that netherworld, a world with which few people are familiar, back to the civilized world in which the sun shines and the sky is blue and emotions called happiness and joy exist. I have poured my heart and soul into telling this story, and shed many tears along the way, since Monday, May 21, 2007, the day I began writing this book. My story is not pleasant. It is not casual summer reading, nor is it Shakespeare. But it is honest. If this book contributes, in some small way, towards the fight against dementia, and helps to bring about better support for caregivers and loved ones of dementia sufferers, then perhaps, when all is said and done, I and my life on this Earth will have been worth something after all. And maybe I will then be able to find, at long last, a modicum of inner peace. My greatest hope is that this book will stand as a monument to the deep and unconditional love that Mom and I shared — a love more powerful than the ravages of dementia, a love that not even death itself could extinguish. Please Note: This book contains strong language in places. Thus, this book is not suitable for children, minors, or sensitive adults. Reader discretion is advised. |
