| About
Our Book: |
Maybe, lurking within a part of anyone's mind, is another complete person who provides an indelible link to the distant past. What Waits Within is a novel that deals with this possibility. It begins with the explosion of a supernova and ends with a tornado and two kindergarten-age children who survive it. It is the story of Eddie, a young boy locked in a closet in the music room in a Catholic orphanage. He has been put there by an elderly nun as a punishment. There in the closet emerges the unseen, unfelt, evil entity who has been with him since his conception. Eddie, now a young man, has left the orphanage and joined the Army. In Vietnam, he is wounded, captured, and put into a hole in the ground. The entity helps him cope with his captivity. After his rescue, Eddie is sent to the States for rehabilitation. It is during this time that he meets a nurse with whom he falls in love. It is also during this time that the entity compels Eddie to kill. Eventually, Eddie is reunited with the nun who rescued him from the closet. He is offered a job at a school where she is the principal. It is there that the entity fully emerges as a separate being, sharing the mind and body of Eddie. There is more killing, this time within the convent. The motive is related to a terrible secret that began more than two thousand years ago in the most unlikely place. What Waits Within has believable characters, love, passion, murder, and it raises the question of the continuity of memory. Preview a Chapter.
