Our Book: |
| 1941, Max Morrow, retired commander in the U.S. Navy, owns three night clubs in Long Beach. Mickey Cohen, a Los Angeles gangster thinks the bustling Long Beach Pike area is perfect for a dance hall with gambling in the back room. He approaches Max -- Anger and vengeance swirl after Max turns down Mikey's partnership proposal. Enter Sam Magee, secret front man for the mob, who buys into Max's business. Plans are made to dispose of Max and frame his former estranged son for the murder. Only a miracle will save Captain Dick Morrow from the gas chamber! Based in part on a real murder during the same time frame. The author was personally acquainted with the characters in the actual murder trial. He installs himself in the story as Max's son and tells story, including actual experiences with both characters prior to the murder. |
