Our Book: |
If you have ever sailed or dreamed of sailing, share these pages with Ronnie Stone. At age fifty-three and with no sailing experience, she moves from her armchair beside a dying fire to the deck of a small Voyager 26 to sail the Intracoastal Waterway and The Bahama Islands. In 1985-86, in response to three spontaneous invitations following the shattering loss of an adult son, Ronnie accepts an unexpected gift life generously offers. In so doing, she learns the healing capacity of sea and sky, solitude and companionship, time and timelessness. Share the life of live-aboards who look out for each other; and meet her traveling companions, friends made and kept through the years and those kept only in memory. And finally, become acquainted with the engaging stranger who invites Ronnie into his life, offers her the opportunity to fulfill a lifelong dream, and ultimately asks her to be his wife.

| About
the Author: |
In 1993, at age 60, Ronnie Stone received her BA Degree in Religious Studies with a minor in English from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Two months later, she retired; "Which puts to rest forever," declared one professor, "the myth that we get a degree to get a job!" With husband Dick, she moved to the coastal village of Arapahoe, NC, and taught part-time in the Continuing Education Program at Pamlico Community College. In 1995, the couple bought Drifter, a British-built motor-sailer and outfitted her for life aboard. For the next several years, they spent summers ashore and winters sailing the Intracoastal Waterway, the west coast of Florida, and the Bahama Islands. Now seventy-five, she lives with Dick in the mountains of North Carolina where she gardens, paints, reads, and continues to write.
