| About
Our Book: |
The author of this book can testify through personal experience, and with her unique brand of wit and humour, to the naivity of the 'designer picture' of country life. Far from it, embarking on a self-sufficient lifestyle, it seems, is fraught with hazards guaranteed to make anyone dreaming about running their own smallholding think twice - and yet, does she regret it? 'Never'! Self-Deficiency tells of her and her husband's whirlwind decision to leave Britain and a secure income to run a small farm in a remote corner of south-west Ireland. From then on we read of a bizarre sequence of hilarious events as she and her family try to come to terms with their new lifestyle - and even more ridiculous, their somewkhat untamed menagerie - all of which demonstrate to anyone thinking of 'gettting back to the land', that above all they will need a little perserverance, a great deal of staying power when the going gets tough and a certain amount of lateral thinking..............

| About
the Author: |
Sally Borst's early career went from advertising to becoming Managing Director of a domestic agency. When she married in 1974 she helped her husband run a pub, until, fed up with 'trying to be nice to drunk people when you are sober' they decided to pack their bags and go to Ireland. She is a regular contributor to various British and Irish magazines and still lives in south-west Ireland with her husband and three children.
