Our Book: |
In part 1 of The Cutting Edge, Shelly Jones, a NASA astronaut, finds herself immersed in the Black Operations world of government and civilian contractors, working (on loan from NASA) at Technology Venture Dynamics Corp. She was working on the development of the Black Craft under the tutelage of Zack Burton, the senior test pilot and system development engineer. Never having been exposed to this kind of life she found herself groping for her identity in the male bastion of Black Operations. In her short time at Technology Venture Dynamics Corp. Shelly observed the critical evolution of the Black Craft from a rocket powered propulsion system to a nuclear fusion drive powered craft. Its capabilities seemed limitless, with extended flight capabilities such as hovering and prolonged flight time, as well combined intra atmospheric and space flight. It had become the preeminent space plane and Americas most Advanced Technological Weapon. In the end of part 1, Zack is killed during a test flight when the Black Craft crashes into a West Virginia Mountain Peak after an onboard computer failure. Shelly is forced to assume the position as senior program engineer and test pilot under Jim Sherman. This new position gives her access to information that is far beyond her wildest dreams.
